Splendours of Royal Mysore -
The Untold Story of the Wodeyars

Talk at BITS Pilani - 26th April 2008

It was a homecoming of sorts for author Vikram Sampath when his alma-mater BITS-Pilani invited him for a launch of the book at their sprawling campus. In a colorful function organized by the BITS Alumni Association (BITSAA) in association with the Humanistic Studies Group at the Lecture Theatre Complex, the book was dedicated to the institute, its faculty and students by Vice Chancellor Prof. L. K. Maheshwari.

In his address to the gathering of faculty and students, Prof. Maheshwari hailed the efforts of the author and his ability to multi-task amidst his many other chores. A science student’s approach to a subject like history would be interesting to watch, he said. In his talk, author Vikram Sampath shared an overview of the book, the processes that went behind its writing and the general perils involved in historical documentation.

On an emotional note, he recalled with gratitude the role played by the institute in honing his skills and shaping his personality. He also had a word of advice for the students there that they should participate in as many extra curricular activities when there are so many avenues available for the same at BITS-Pilani and also offered to mentor anyone who would want to think of writing a book! Vikram thereafter presented a copy of the book to the sprawling Library of the institute.

The event also involved the screening of the documentary film on the book and its contents that grounded the audience to the various aspects of Mysore history. The evening ended with high tea along with discussions among faculty members and students.
